205 unique visitors so far - 1000 times more wanted
Starting up a new blog from the scratch is also a great learning experience of attracting the visitors to a new website. I am a firm believer in sharing the knowledge, so every now and then I'll share the things I have done to spread the information about Dukeville.
We have now been public for a little bit over two days and have attracted 205 unique visitors according to Google Analytics. Here's a breakdown what I've done so far.
The timing for the publishing isn't the best possible as this is the time of the year when almost every Finn is on their summer holiday. We have been also enjoying exceptionally great weather, so only fools like me spend time on their computer. Well, it only makes this more interesting.
At this time, I've been leveraging my contacts in various medias. It sure helps to have a largish number of followers and friends.
- Wednesday: Released the address in IRC (the big premiere) and in Qaiku. Invited a limited number of people from the Finnish social media scene to the Facebook fan page. Added Dukeville to Blogilista.fi. Tried to connect Dukeville to the Facebook fan page to automatically republish all postings but failed with that (cannot understand why Notes import doesn't work).
- Thursday: Shared the first post in Google Reader. Published the address in our other blog, Pinseri. Installed Feedburner and set it to republish all future postings to Twitter. Installed Google Webmaster Tools.
- Friday: Started sharing postings manually to Facebook, with a delay because of failed attempt with the automatic connect and not wanting to flood the audience with updates. Published the blog in my personal Facebook feed.

Brilliant! Very cool for you to share what you have done to promote the blog. Will serve as list for others, what could/should be done.
Have you considered search phrase advertising with Google? If you would, what might be the words to buy?
@Tuija I have been entertaining the thought of buying some AdWords keywords. But first I'd need to get a clear idea of what this site is going to deal with - and that comes with time. I might have some free AdWords credits around though... hmm.
Facebook Notes import is flaky. Sometimes it works well, but usually it just imports a chunk of entries every now and then.
